Kanata-Stittsville-Dunrobin

Kanata/Stittsville/Dunrobin Area
Kanata

Originally developed by Bill Teron and Robert Campeau, Kanata is one of Ottawa’s foremost planned suburban communities.  It has won many awards for innovative development and city planning. Kanata has grown beyond its modest roots and is now home to some of Canada's top high tech firms. With an incredible history of enormously successful firms like Mitel, Newbridge Networks, Bell Northern Research, and Nordian.
Where is it?

Kanata is one of the largest suburbs of Ottawa. It experienced rapid growth due to the burgeoning high-tech industry. With great high-tech success stories like Newbridge, Mitel and others. It is about 22 km (14 mi) west of the city's downtown. As of 2016, Kanata had a population of 117,304 and is growing rapidly. Before it was amalgamated into Ottawa in 2001, it was one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and the fastest growing community in Eastern Ontario.

What makes Kanata a Special place to live?
Kanata grew up as a planned bedroom community with modest infrastructure, one grocery store, a bank and a bar.
The emergence of the High-tech industry in the early 80’s and 90’s launched Kanata on the fast track of industrial development.
The majority of the commercial development didn’t happen until long after the high-tech success though.  Large scale commercial infrastructure on Terry Fox Drive was only introduced in the early 2000 time frame.
Kanata is an ideal community for raising kids, great schools, great recreation facilities and affordable housing.
Even with vast amounts of available land, recent growth and a strong real estate market have put pressure on builders to keep up with demand in this area.

Area hockey teams like the Kanata Lazer’s are indicative of the great recreational options available to both boys and girls.
